Technically the answer is yes you can mount it in 4 inches deep. However, the door (which is the last ¾ of an inch) is beveled. This means that it even though they have mounted it at the depth of the item, it will not be flush because the corners rise at an angle. My suggestion would be to mount it 3.25 inches into the wall with the door being outside of the wall. This would give the impression of a real mirror but mask the fact that it is a jewelry armoire.
