Q1: Is the jewelry box made of solid wood?

A: No. The core of the box is made of MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) with an outside wood veneer. MDF is a wood composite material. MDF is very popular and used in most moderately and higher priced wood furniture and other wood products such as kitchen cabinets. MDF is made from fine wood fiber and resin. The material is heat pressed to produce a solid board with many of the same qualities of natural wood. MDF is not particle board. Particle board is a wood composite product made from sawdust and glue.

Q2: What is a veneer?

A: Veneer is a thin wood layer. Veneered construction refers to furniture that is made in whole or in part by using veneer bonded to an inner core. In the case of this box, the outer bubinga veneer is bonded to the MDF core. Veneer construction is used in 80% of furniture manufactured from budget to high price points.

Q3: What is bubinga wood?

A: Bubinga is an exotic wood from Africa and is known for its beautiful wood grain. Sought by guitar makers and small box builders alike, this wood is often referred to as African rosewood, although technically it is NOT from the rosewood family.

Q4: Is inside tray lining acid free / tarnish free?

A: The material has not been specifically designed to be either acid or tarnish free. However, the manufacturer has never encountered problems with the lining causing tarnish to jewelry. We do recommend that if you are storing valuable printed material or photos inside the jewelry box that you place paper items in acid free plastic prior to placing inside box.
